PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
